Frequently Asked Questions

What separates CSC from other non-theistic Satanic organizations?

CSC’s goal is to provide community and resources for member congregations without controlling them (our mantra is "Community Without Control"). Member Congregations remain Independent and CSC exists to provide services and support to them. Member congregations own their own assets, and are free to operate as they see fit - they are welcome to sell merch, host events, perform rituals, run donation drives, and do whatever else they want without requesting approval from any overseeing gatekeeper. CSC focuses on the community and religious aspects of non-theistic Satanism. We take our mission and priorities from Congregations, not the other way around. Congregations are free to set their own vision and priorities as they see fit.

Is CSC an “umbrella organization?”

No. CSC does not own, control, or have any power over its member congregations. CSC is more like a collaborative project with independent congregations working together to lift each other up and work together toward larger, inter-congregational goals. Member congregations remain completely independent; they are welcome to leave CSC with no hard feelings if it’s not working for them, and are welcome to come back again if they choose to.

Who owns and runs CSC?
No specific individual or individuals own or run CSC; it is a board-driven Non Profit. CSC’s leadership structure is designed to be democratic, and to change over time. CSC is operated by a Board of Directors made up of elected representatives from each geographic region, who each have a two-year maximum term limit. The true decision-makers are the Senatorial representatives of the congregations themselves; they collectively determine CSC’s initiatives and direction.

Why does CSC have membership dues for congregations? What are dues used for?

CSC’s operating costs are currently about $100/month. This includes web domains and hosting, a virtual business address, and background checks for CSC volunteers. Member Congregations’ dues ($8 per month) are used to cover these expenses as well as one-off business expenses like applying for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Everyone working on CSC is a volunteer - there are no paid positions. The Senators from each member congregation receive a financial report from the Board monthly, so member congregations have complete visibility into how their dues are spent.

Why does CSC sell merch?
Merch sales help cover CSC’s business expenses, which helps keep congregations’ annual dues low. With sufficient merch sales, we may be able to bring the costs even lower. Everyone working on CSC is a volunteer - there are no paid positions.

How can my congregation apply to join CSC?
Have your congregation leadership fill out the application and we’ll set up an interview. Alternatively, you can reach out to us directly at CoalitionOfSC@gmail.com to set up a meeting with your congregation/leadership where we can answer any questions you may have and help you decide whether your congregation would like to participate.

What lies ahead?
While our early efforts have focused almost exclusively on establishing a fair, inclusive, and responsive organizational structure able to evolve as our Member Congregations' needs arise, our roadmap includes a multitude of initiatives, including strong recognition of diversity and the development of robust training and training/certification/support for clergy.

As our membership grows, we look forward to supporting the ideas, initiatives, and priorities expressed by our Member Congregations.
